The Poetry of Awakening
A Meditation Course Exploring the Seven Factors of Awakening with Poetry and Dharma (online)
This course is offered live on Zoom
April 13 – June 1, 2022
“If a poem is any damn good at all, it invites you to bring your whole life to that moment…”
Poetry helps us describe what seems ineffable (indescribable) within our experiences of mindful meditation. It is a powerful companion on this path of awakening to the nature of things, and freeing our hearts and minds from deep roots of reactivity. Participants will be encouraged to develop daily present moment mindfulness as well as begin (or continue) a formal meditation practice. Instruction will be given.
Each week we’ll dive into selected poems from Poetry of Presence, An Anthology of Mindfulness Poems, editor Phyllis Cole-Dai & Ruby R. Wilson. We will explore and practice the Seven Factors of Awakening which are: mindfulness, investigation, energy, joy, calm, concentration and equanimity. The chosen poems will reflect these themes, deepening our understanding.
Both new and experienced meditators are welcome. Each weekly gathering will be 2 hours long and will include guided meditation practice, check-in and dhamma theme. Group numbers will be kept small to allow time for sharing and discussion. Time to “bring our whole life to that moment…”
Required book for this course: Poetry of Presence, An Anthology of Mindfulness Poems, editor Phyllis Cole-Dai & Ruby R. Wilson: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36150827-poetry-of-presence

Introduction to Insight (Vipassana) Meditation and Daily Life Mindfulness (in person)
Ruby Sage, Inspiration for the Soul is pleased to offer this 6 week Intro to Meditation
8 Thursdays, 7:30 – 8:45 pm,
April 14 – May 16
In sync with the awakening of spring, we will cultivate our own inner awakening to the nature of how things are. Seeing reality as-it-is is an essential element in well-being according to the teachings of the Buddha. Both meditation and mindfulness are proven to reduce stress, improve focus, and cultivate kindness to ourselves and with others. Mindfulness is the simple, conscious act of being present in any given moment (eating, walking, driving, cleaning, conversing, etc.). Meditation is the focused practice of cultivating calm awareness with the potential to undo our habitual reactions and cultivate skillful responses.
Your pre-registration fee includes your own copy of the very helpful book; Mindfulness: A Day and Night Reflection Journal which is designed to help us track our intentions and progress on this path.
Location: We will meet at the Elora Cafe on Thursday evenings 7:30 – 8:45pm, April 14 – May 16. The Cafe will have some pre-made snacks and beverages available for purchase.
Pre-Registration: $23. Space is limited. Please contact Jill to pre-register and pick up your copy of the required book.
Jill is freely offering her teaching. There will be an opportunity to support the continuation of these teachings and Jill’s livelihood by donation each week.
You are invited to contact Jill with any questions about the course at 519-993-7480 or firstname.lastname@example.org
